Accounts Payable Balance (ABA) is one of the most crucial aspects of business financial management for maintaining financial liquidity and operational efficiency. ABA represents the amount a business owes suppliers for goods or services received but not yet paid for. Effective ABA management helps businesses maintain strong cash flow and accurately assess their ability to pay debts
What is an accounts payable balance ?
Accounts Payable Balance is the total amount of debts a business owes to suppliers or service providers at a given time. This includes debts arising from purchases of goods and services on credit that have not yet been paid for. This accounts payable balance appears on the Balance Sheet under Current Liabilities because it represents an obligation to be paid within one year or according to the supplier's payment terms.
How to calculate Accounts Payable Balance

- Outstanding debt brought forward
- The net amount of money spent on goods or services during the accounting period
- The amount of debt paid to suppliers during an accounting period
example
Company ABC has the following information for a one-year accounting period:
- Outstanding debt brought forward = 50,000 baht.
- Net Purchases = 200,000 Baht
- Balance of debt already paid (Payments Made) = 150,000 baht
AP Balance = 50,000 + 200,000 – 150,000
AP Balance = 100,000 Baht
Therefore, the accounts payable balance at the end of the accounting period is 100,000 baht , which means that Company ABC still owes 100,000 baht to its supplier.
