Let me share my consulting experience reviewing the ERP process of a company with three manufacturing plants producing similar products and components. However, each factory had its own separate production formula within the ERP system. The questions and suggestions regarding data management and factory processes are as follows:
Questions and suggestions
– Why separate production formulas when all factories make the same product and its components?
– Why build separate factories when all factories use the same formula?
The answer is yes
– if so, there's no need to build separate factories
– it increases the workload for both the creators and the approvers
– if the formula is the same, building separate factories makes comparison difficult because the numbers are different. Comparisons have to be manual (requiring a lot of manpower and time)
– it increases the time required to create the formula, when in reality, the same formula can be used in all factories.
A clear example: opening a new factory means having to modify the formulas in each new factory.
If there are 100 formulas x the time spent modifying each formula = the time lost.
If all factories used the same formula, it would be easier to solve the waste problem than if each factory had different production formulas
Furthermore, if the production formula coding is done manually
, the chances of user error and numerous data errors increase.
If you find this helpful, please follow the page and share it with your friends. I think many factories are probably like this.
I will update if there is any further information.
